Gayler, a power hitter, helped the team down Sudden Impact 15-11, 15-6, and Salamander 15-12, 15-7, in Lower Island Senior A men’s league action. He joined his former coach, Lome Chan, a setter, in the win. ~The Gotcha HTO team relied heavily on the spiking and blocking of 67” middle bloc- ker Andy Jarisz in the matches, said Chan. He said the Gotcha HTO squad will allow Gayler to reach a higher level of play. “After being one of the best high school volleyball players in the province last year, he will be putting his skills against many national, university, col- legiate and club teams this season.” In addition to league compe- tition, Gotcha HTO will also be playing in the Tier I — B.C Open tournament series against top Pacific Northwest teams. The player-coach says his team was fortunate to emerge with a 1-0 win over Cowichan in a Third Division Vancouver Island Soccer League game played on a lush Duncan field. Cove dominated the first half, scoring the only goal they would need after about 15 minutes. Fullback Lee Robson beat a couple of Cowichan players and took the ball down his left side.
