He also won the 400 metre (70.8s), 800 metre (3:12.7s) and 80 metre hurdles (17.5s). The Parkland Panthers have a solid lock on third place, just six points back of frontrunner Mount Douglas and five behind || Oak Bay, after the third of the seven-race championship series was held May 6. Sean Gerrett lead the way for the Panthers, gaining eight points for his fourth-place fin- ish in the junior boy’s category. Gerrett is currently atop the individual points standings with 23, three ahead of Oak Bay’s Mike Lamb. The next three races are what coach Dave Smith says are Parkland’s' strongest events — mountain bikeraces — with the first one, the Tour De Dump, scheduled for May 14 behind the Hartland Road Landfill. Wheel fun time Saltspring Island’s Island Spoke Folk are sponsoring a Spoke Folk Fest over the Vic- toria Day long weekend. The Sunday and Monday cross-country lap race for mountain bikes will feature an awards ceremony, barbecue and a live entertainment bonfire fol- lowing the race. Campsites are available for $3 at the venue, which will be held at the Mansell Farm on Mansell Rd., and organizers ask that participants do not bring any dogs as it is a sheep farm. Registration for the 4.3 kilo- metre single track race is Sun- day at 10 a.m. and costs $30. Walt earns 2nd Tracey Walt, in only her second competition, placed second in the women’s heavy- weight division of the B.C Body Building Championships last weekend.
