In Division 3 of the Vancouver Island Ladies’ Field Hockey League, the Kapteyns Super Salon team kept on the leading edge of a very evenly matched game against . the Cowichan Kestrels Saturday, team spokesman Christine Buckle said. ¢é The Kestrels opened the scoring with a first-half goal but the Peninsula squad battled back with a goal by Joan McKimm off a penalty comer midway through the second half. — : Just moments later, Lynn Lewis scored the tie-breaker after taking a rebound from the Kestrel goal- keeper to give the Kapteyns a 2-1 victory: Playing an outstanding game for the Kapteyns at left half was Melanie Clarke, who is the team’s most improved player, Buckle said. Meanwhile, the Hotel Sidney + Hobbits “lost miserably” to the Cowichan Cardinals Saturday at home on the Parkland School - ' field, Buckle said. -er Tina LaBine, the Hobbits fell 3-0: a _ “She was just dynamite,” Buck- — le said. “If it wasn’t for her the score would have been much higher.” - The 16-year-old LaBine thwart- ed Cardinal players with several breakaway chances in a fast-paced, action-packed match, Buckle said.
