Opinion -TheReview Wednesday, October 21, 1992 — A10 Help import body-soothing experience by Phillis Head Special to The Review Wanted: Participants in Wu Style Taiji during April, May, June, 1993. Instructed by Masters Sheeah Yuan Bin and Lin Shu Rong with interpreter, Yao Dong Jufrom Dalian, Liaoning Province, Peo- ples Republic of China. Contributions to help pay their airfare and act as hosts during their stay. Call Phyllis Head, if interested, at 655-4036. In the northeast section of the Peoples’ Republic of China, Lia- oning Province, Dalian is on a peninsula, with a climate much the same as that on Vancouver Island. Dalian, where I recently taught Conversational English to high school students for a period of four months, is an industrial city of four million people. Now that I’ve returned home to Sidney, enjoying the autumn weather, puttering in my garden, a wave of nostalgia envelops me. I miss the friendship of those who treated me with affection and protection. I would like to reciprocate their friendship by inviting them to our beautiful Saanich Peninsula. Living in China rather than looking at China is a very different experience. Zhongshan Square, the central round-about park of Dalian was my greatest joy. Every morning, at 6 a.m. I joined a Taijishen group. Every evening, I was given instructions, learning each movement thor- oughly. There are five basic kinds of — Chinese Taiji and many variations of those. Wu Style is particularly designed to benefit the internal organs. (I have found no Canadian group acquainted with this style.) “Taiji is very useful in disease preventing and body building. It combines quietness with moving.” While travelling, I joined groups in Other cities and was able to follow other sequences of move- ment. People always would find a place for me, offering me positive “criticism.” I arrived home feeling very fit and well. I stand taller and feel a relaxed sense of well being from the experiences. There are two teaching masters, with an interpreter, who would like to come and be our guests: Teach- ing Masters Xia Yuan-bin and Lin shu-rong, and interpreter Yao Dong-ju are all from Dalian. They are not interested in compensation. I’m sure there are people on our Island who would like to be a part of these experiences for three TOO YOUNG FOR sana- box games, but too old not to be curious about the wonderful assort- ment of foys available for Sidney Preschool stu- dents at Sf. Paul’s United Church on Malaview Avenue in Sidney. This youngster was one of many at the preschool’s open house fhat was well attended on Satur day. Current students and preschool! alumni enjoyed both indoor and outdoor games. GLENN WERKMAN photo Someone (i)A09/ 4 You Know! 3/9 Gh Struggling ~)’ With Math? ea, Call Ruth Barron, B.A., M.Ed. Have your space needs changed or has your income increased to the point where you're planning to start looking for house number two? In most cases, it’s easier to find that second home than to find buyers for your first one. As part of your strategy, it’s best to have your home under contract before you begin a serious new home search. This will make you. look attractive to sellers in two ways. First, you won’t have to include a contingency in your offer covering the sale of your home. Second, you will look more qualified financially if there is no need for a bridge loan. Both of these factors will improve your bargaining position if you plan to negotiate the price or terms. If you find yourself in a multiple offer situation, the chances that your offer will be accepted will increase dramatically. If there’s a move in your future, talk to us, Tim or Arlene, at 652-5171.
