News One winner in granis debaie There were more losers than winners when Central Saanich council reviewed preliminary 1993 grant requests at a Nov. 16 council meeting. Approved was a grant of $31,000 for the Greater Victoria Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Applications from the Belfry Arts Centre for $4,000 and from Pitch-In British Columbia for $350 were denied. Also rejected was a bid from the Central Saanich Lions Club for $2,700 and a request from the Peninsula Country Market for $400. Treasurer Paul Murray explained the Lions Club grant was a request for municipal cutting of grass at a ball park used by the community and for services to Central Saanich Days. The Peninsula Country Market had asked the municipality to cut the grass for the market. Coun. Arlene Box suggested the Country Market could fund the grass-cutting from money raised through table rentals. The single approved grant will be included in the 1993 provi- sional budget. Murray recommended any increase in grant funding be restricted to a three per cent increase over 1992 — a total equal to the $31,000 allocated to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club. The Boys and Girls Club had requested $33,500. Central Saanich council is attempting to keep any budget increase at or below three per cent. : = TheReview Wednesday, November 25, 1992 — A22 Le CD Ss When looking for the right home or Ask for Jim Dixon a “House Sold” name selling yours...
