Saanich Because Central Saanich is a popular location with the public for fishing, diving, and other water activities, a few members of the Central Saanich volunteer fire department and the police depart- ment are organizing the Central Saanich Police Fire Emergency Response Dive Team. Spokesman Joe Ferrie said the | members of this dive team believe there is a need for such a team in Central Saanich in the event of an emergency, particularly in Bren- twood Bay. “Over the years there have been some emergencies which could have used the services of the dive team and there will be only more and more use of the waters around Central Saanich,” Ferrie said. Overturned fishing boats, divers lost or in trouble, and the recovery of stolen property are only some of the problems the dive team could attend, he said. With all the different activities in and around the waters of Central Saanich the members of the C.S.PE emergency response team feel it is only time before - water emergencies increase dra- matically and will require the services of the dive team. This is why a few members of the police and fire departments are trying to form the dive team with the support of the fire and police departments. All the members of the dive - team are volunteering their time to give the municipality just one more excellent emergency service. The dive team hopes to be in operation by Feb. 1, 1993, once all proper authorities have been noti- fied and proper regulations have BRIGHT LIGHTS intrigue sail- bast watchers Saturday.
