Hallways ring
with carolling

The halls will be decked and the
gymnasiums ringing with carols at
many local schools during the last
few days before the schools close
Friday for the Christmas holidays.

Brentwood Elementary students
will enjoy a magic show Thursday
and a carol sing Fnday.

At Deep Cove Elementary,
songs, skits and recitations will be
presented in the school gymna-
sium during two family nights, one
tonight and one tomorrow night.

Durrance Elementary students
present a-Christmas concert twice
on Thursday, once at 1 p.m. and
once at 7 p.m. in the school.

The public is invited to the
Christmas concert presented by
Greenglade Elementary at-7 p.m.
Thursday. A dress rehearsal will be
held at 1 p.m. today.

A choir of Grade 2 and 3
students will lead Keating Ele-
mentary students in an in-house
caroling session Friday afternoon.

Sansbury intermediate students
and Saanichton Elementary held
Christmas concerts Tuesday night.
The Sansbury primary students
perform in the school gym Thurs-
day night at 7 p.m.

Tickets must be reserved for the
primary division concert at Sidney
Elementary, presented at 1 p.m.
and 7 p.m. today.

The Transport Canada weather
office reported wind gusts up to 78
km-h at Victoria airport with the
wind monitor in the Haro Strait
clocking gusts of 100 km-h
between 4 and 5 a.m., weather
office manager Jim Steele said
Thursday.

“The strong winds left a signifi-
cant amount of driftwood along
the eastern sections of the Penin-
sula,” he said.

Transportation on and off the
Island was also disrupted as the
Sealink canceled their morming
sailings and B.C. Ferries had some
delays due to wind gusts, Steele
said.
