Two boys, estimated to be 12 or 13 years old, entered the society grounds on the Saturday and spoke to Bob Norwood, one of the dozen volunteers working on the histori- cal site. In response to questions about an engine, Norwood directed the boys to the workshop where society president Art Gardner was working. Norwood then left the boys alone. Gardner said the boys never came into the workshop. A few minutes later, members noticed the organization’s donation jar had been taken from the museum. In addition, one of the sliding panels in the display case had been opened and a handful of antique jewelry seized. Gardner estimates the donations jar contained about $20. The value of the jewelry is not known. He asks anyone with any infor- mation about the theft to contact Est. Peter Snell at Central Saanich police or to call the artifacts society at 652-5522.
