V3C Dear Sirs: Re: Establishment of a Fire Fighters' College Item 7(b) iiotices of Motion Council Meeting August 3, 1976 This is to advise the following resolution of Council was adopted at the regular August 3rd meeting: , WHEREAS the Firefighting services of British Columbia, including Burnaby's need upgrading as British Columbia's fire loss record is one of the worst _in the Canadian Provinces as indicated by the Keenleyside Report and the Federal Fire Marshal Office; AND WHEREAS present training is not standardized and for this reason lacks support from the Tire Fighters; AND WHEREAS the management of Firefighting services is a complex fenction involving many disciplines; AND WHEREAS management courses for Fire Fignters are scarcely available snd those that are available in British Columbia are not adequate and not recognized between Firefighting bodies; I i i: j | i at i { ' | i { | a4 } | i “ t 1 AND WHEREAS the Keenleyside Report recommends a Provincial Fire Fightezs' College be established to provide the needed training to a Provincial standard re- cognized by all Firefighting bodies in British Columbia; HOW THERLFORE BE IT RESGLVED that this Council petition the Provincial Governmant to make an inmediate start on a Fire Fighters’ College for the Province of British Colunbia and that copies of this Resolution be sent to the Greater Vancouver Regional District member Municipalities and to the Union of S8ritish Colunbia Municipalities asking them to write to the Provineiel Governaent mate endorsing this resolution.
