The SCOTT WITTKE....a new ‘record previous record had been eld by Lorne Dakin with 37 points in one game. In the championship game the Kermodes faced Prince George and won going away with the final tally being &5 to 65. Effective for the. winners in this contest were Ernie Dusdal with 16 points and Ernie Froese with 15. The Kermodes were voted the most sportsmanlike team of the tournament and Ernie Froese and Scott Wittke were named to the first All Star Team. SMITHERS INVITATIONAL TOURNEY The Caledonia “B" team also hit the championship circle over the weekend, taking the Smithers In- vitational with a breath- taking last second victory over the host team. — In the first contest for Terrace they faced Burns Lake coming away with a 57 to 50 win. Eric Puff paced the winners with 22 points. In the championship game against Smithers Terrace came off the floor with a 80 to79 victory when Eric Muff hit on two foul shots with one ’ second left to play to give his team the win and the championship. During this game he managed a total of 26 points. Greenville won the second game with a score of 80 against Hazelton’s 61. - The Winter Games by Kay Dahlen Beauty, balance and agility will be demon- strated, as 42 local people and 88 athletes from eight other communities display their skills at the gymnastic events that will.be taking place at the Northern B.C. Winter Games February 18 to 20. The “Games” consisting of a panorama of 20 events for people of all ages will have something to please all sports enthusiasts. Marty Kenyon, organizer of the gymnastic event, says excitement is running high as this is a first for all competitors on the four local teams. Assisting Marty in the coaching of the teams are Physical Education teachers Eleanor Hen- drickson and Jeanette Melia. There are four com- ulsory events for women: alance beams, floor exercise, uneven parallel bars and vault. For men the events are: parallel bars, pommel! horse, rings, floor exercise, side vault and horizontal bars. In order to qualify one must compete in all events. tournament SATURDAY Kitimaat won its game against Kitkatla -89-82. Kitkatla then knocked Hazelton out of the tour- nament with a score of 104- 68. Kitkatla won its third game with a score of. 107 against the Twin River iefg’ 45. Greenville proved to be the surprise of the tour- nament playing a tough, close game against Kitimaat and only losing during the last three. minutes of the game. Kitimaat wen 108-99. Kitkatla then won its game against Aiyansh 111- 48, Aiyansh was knocked out by Greenville which won 110-61 during Saturday’s final game. SUNDAY Kitkatla was the winner of the semi-finals against Greenville with a score of 100-70. Twin River Chiefs and Kitwanga tied during the exhibition game with the score at 50-50 and both teams deciding not to go into overtime. . The final game had Kitkatla against Kitimaat and was considered by many to be the best game of the tournament. Kitimaat took a strong lead in the first haif of the game but during the second haif Kitkatla came on strong and took the game 87-64. es WI THE CALEDONIA, “A” KERMODES Most Sportsmanlike Team at Prince George. Zone Badminton Playday took place at Smithers last aturday, Five schools competed in the senior division and six in the junior section. Terrace schools dominated the tournament in both divisions; Caledonia was first in the senior division and Skeena was first in the junior division. Caledonia girls Debbie Hallam and Debbie An- derson were first and second respectively in the Ladies Singles and together they were second in the Ladies Doubles to Cathy Bie and Susan Lorscher of Smithers. Debbie Hallam had her second win of the day when she combined with Dwayne Lorette of Caledonia to win the Mixed Doubles. In the Men’s Singles Jack Bhan- wer of Prince Rupert was first and team mate L. Wu was second. J, Bhanwer and L. Wu took the Men’s Doubles from D, Lorette and J. Chow of Caledonia in a really exciting final. The final positions in the senior division were Caledonia first, Prince Rupert second, Smithers third, Hazelton fourth and Houston fifth. in the Junior Division Skeena was again supreme. It was a close game most of the way but with the Terrace team pressing to catch up, the local team got into foul trouble, sending the Prince George team to the foul line many times in the closing minutes. The tournament M.V.P., Mike Rose, led the winners with 2? points, 13 of them from the foul line.
