Alderman Laking reported on his attendance at the Canadian Federation of Municipalities Conference in Vancouver last week and outlined the discussions held on the five major points of discussion, i.e. Financing, Transportation, Housing, Land Use and Recreation, and noted that while many of the subjects under consideration were very timely, there were a number of resolutions considered which, in his opinion, should have been dealt with on a provincial level due to their limited application. The City Engineer pointed out for information that he had been advised by Provincial authorities that legislation will soon be passed that will require all jegal surveys carried out in 1977 to be done in Metric and therefore he suggested that some consideration should be given to the revision of the City's Subdivision of Land and Zoning By-laws to take this into consideration. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay noted that he had been advised that the Happy Times Preschool (who had been attempting to locate in PoCo House) had found new premises in the Catholic Church Hall on Chester Street for a one year period. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay referred to his query at the last Council meeting regarding the funds expended on advertising in local newspapers and stated his feeling that a policy should be set to eliminate such duplication of advertising and the unnecessary expenses involved. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay referred to a copy of a letter sent to Robert Wenman, M.P. by the City Engineer with a cartoon relative to the local dyking situation attached and suggested the local press may be interested in a copy of same. Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay commented on this attendance at the C.F.M. (F.C.M.) Conference and advised that the document outlining and analysing public finance entitled "Puppets on a Shoestring" had been adopted by the Conference delegates and he would make his copy available for anyone interested in perusing same.
