Kirk DATEs July 23, 1991 Gity Administrator FILE: Social Housing Carlos Felip Director of Planning Draft Socisl Housing Policy for the City of Port Coquitlam Planning and Development Committee July 16, 1991 Council in Committee July 22, 1991 The City of Port Coquitlam currently has 754 unite in the "Social Housing" category (includes non-profit housing for families and seniors, and group homes). Current market and demographic trends indicate that social housing will continue to be in demand. Concerns have been raised over the impact of clustering of projects on the community and on schools in certain areas. The propased Social Housing Policy introduces several locational criteria and guidelines for family and seniors non~profit housing development and group homes to encourage dispersal throughout the community and proximity to appropriate services. Projects are also encouraged to respect surrounding developments by being of similar scale and density. The aim of the policy is to promote integration and community acceptance of future social housing developmerits. This report was prepared as part of the work towards a new Official Community Plan for the City, and was presented to Council in Committee on July 22, 1991. the attached report include: Projects should be located close to schools and public facilities.
