Ask about our HOME IMPROVEMENT PLANS ‘NO DOWN PAYMENT Socialist Seats Up: Popular Support Down WHILE much publicity has attend- ed the increase in Socialist CCF representation of British Colum- bia in the Federal Parliament—an increase from 3 seats in 1949 to 7 in 1953—it is surprising that one significant fact has escaped atten- tion: The Socialist vote in B.C. actually dropped from 31.5 per cent in 1949 to about 26.5 in 1953. For Canada as a whole the So- cialist CCF vote appears to have shrunk from 13.38 obtained in 1949 to approximately 12.3 per cent in 1953. Once more, Socialist strength was drawn almost wholly from two provinces — Saskatchewan and British Columbia, East of the Great Lakes, in the indus’ ed heart of Canada and throughout the Maritimes, only two Socialists were elected, one in Ontario and one in Nova Scotia, Alberta, like Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfound- land, elected none. Any assumption that increased Socialist representation in Parlia- ment was the result of greater popular support is NOT borne oxt by the facts. The trend in Canada continues away from the theory of government! i ing. : wollcitor.| by mutual consent om the far as who retired from the sald DATED st White Rock, this 1st Day of September E.
