While rather hard to dif- ferentiate between a good and only fair canoist, some means must be found to keep paddlers away from the crafts who do not understand their handiing, says the Committee on Public Safety. VANCOUVER TO LICENSE DRIVERS. VANCOUVER, April 20.—The police department are asking for the right to license automobile drivers. In this way they hope to have them more in their jurisdic- tion. In the case of contributory negligence. where an accident is concerned, they will have the right to prohibit the autoist from driving for a certain period, and then to put him on probation. They hope by this means to eliminate a great deal of the reckless driving that is now being done in Vancouver. INQUIRY INTO FILLING STATIONS. VANCOUVER, April 20.—An inspector is going the rounds of all the gas filling stations in Vancouver, check- ing up on their measures, There has been considerable comment on how the stations are able to make a living with the profit on gasoline only two cents a_ gallon. There are two or three hundred filling stations in or around Vancouver, and as the number of cars is only limited, it has raised the question—are the stations giv- ing full measure? In the event of the inspector finding | short measure being given the license will be cancelled lana the owner hailed into court to answer to the above | charge. RURAL BUILDING BOOM IN B. C.
