DONALD DUCK COMES TO SIDNEY
Donald Duck has moved in with Mrs. Peggy Verhey. The little
.. duckling was rescued from its mother when she attempted to
kill it after first having despatched two other offspring. ‘‘T'll look ~
after it for another month or so and then we will likely put in in
Beacon Hil] Park,’’ said Mrs. Verhey. ‘‘We took Donald out to
Sidney Spit over the weekend and he jumped right into the
water. He headed straight out to sea. We picked him up from a

Impressions Of An Exhibition

.whose work was exhibited

last. week in St. John’s
Church Hall.

An exhibition of the work of ten
local artists, held recently in St.
John’s Church Hall, West
Saanich. Road, was the
culmination of a series of
seminars held by Windsor Utley
at the Victoria Art Gallery..

These weekly sessions, which

consisted of lectures and open
discussions. witn’ criticism of
work .being done. They were
designed to help the artist
discover. his own latent
possibilities and to. deepen. his
perception of all things about

others. were doing, to help him
stimulate his imagination and
encourage him to try new things.
Mr. Utley was able to find the
strenth in a painting. and en-
courage the artist. to work
towards that strength. :

work and the results were very

Peggy Larson is an artist who
is only at her best when she can
work quickly. This shows in her
bold black lines in a_ well
organized design and com-
plemented with a good balance of
colour. Working much in the style
of Braque, she uses mostly oil or

_acrylics on paper.

Nita Flick. working in. a
_cubistic, yet lyrical. manner has
many colourful paintings with a
totemic theme. She has sought to
express the Indian feeling for the

strong sense of the spiritual.

An artist who admits that she
‘has not quite found her way is
Sylvia Canetta. Recently arrived

will look before she starts it. She
began painting ina realistic style

and as now gone through a-

simplified form of expression.
Bessie Snider, . another . artist
who likes to. work quickly and

and wash,. water colours: ‘and
collages. has had the courage to
try an oi] painting. It has proved

It is obvious that these artists
have been earnestly striving
towards their goal and following
the sage advice of Mr. Utley. “To
find what they love to do best and
then sincerely work.at it.”
