He offered to pay for his stay, which quite surprised us, and we finally agreed on the sum of two pounds, five shillings per week. Some three weeks later my dear husband received a telegram from his brother in Chipping Norton, saying that his aged Mother had suffered a stroke and was_- near death. As we had no time to make other arrangements we asked our guest if he would keep an eye on the house and the servants for two or three days, to which he consented.' Imagine our shock Sir, when we arrived at my Mother-in- laws home to find her hole and hearty, and with no knowledge of any telegram. Fearing the worst we hurried home, only to find that not only had our guest gone, but also a set of my finest silverware, a pair of matching Purdey double-guns that had hung over the mantlepiece in the library, and _ three beautifully engraved silver Tankards. Also gone, was Parkne, my personel maid. We immediatley called in the police and military authorities but although they made intensive enquiries were unable to trace the perpetrator of .this lenious crime. FOR CENTRAL SAANICH Central Saanich will be getting better mileage for its tax dollars in 1976 after three Honda Civics are delivered this month. The municipally owned cars will ensure more efficietn use of staff time, according to finance committee chairman Donald MacLaurin. He said more than $2,500 was spent in mileage for municipal employees last year, which is almost the cost of buying a small compact car, The cars will pay for themselves in less than five years and make the operation of the municipality more efficient, he claimed. e a.m. a Sat., Jan. 10 - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - open for drop-ins.
