Golden Spruce seedlings waiting to be returned to the
Haida Nation on the Queen Charlottes, Reid said.

“If it wasn’t for this ability, the Golden Spruce would have
been lost forever,” he said.

It's no different than the work a gardener would doi m en-
larging or replanting a garden. According to The Encyclo-
pedia of the Small Garden, it is relatively easy, and much
less expensive, for a gardener to take a branch off an exist-
ing tree, shrub or plant — such as lavender — root it, then
plant it to extend their existing garden. That new seedling
is called a ‘clone’.

“We don't do anything to these trees. We just finda stand
of trees that appear naturally resistant to disease or insects,
collect seeds from them, grow them to produce more seeds,

then use those for reforestation Projects around the .

The vandals who destroyed the trees at the archers

claimed in their fax that they only destroyed trees that they
