The peat. bog:* CONTINUED FROM PAGE 7 | Deep Cove’s sewage. I urge people to consider alterna- tives to a large centralized sewer system. I have re- cently become aware that there are many alternatives to the typical “big pipe” style sewage treatment systems typically sought by munici- palities and engineers. How- ever, it is an uphill battle to propose and advance alter- natives, as many people do not have the time or energy to do the research and as- similate the facts: I failed to see why a peat bog filter system: would re- quire an outfall as reported in the article. I have done some reading on such sys- tems and have learned that they can be built for individ- ual lots or for.a cluster. This reduces the concentration © of effluent and removes the necessity for a large outfall. In fact, it is my understand- _. ing that the peat bog on-site - systems are of less cost be- cause they do-not require. ‘large pipes and pumps from ° home to home.
