Mainland.

Janet has only been
playing field’ hockey for.
three years — most others
have been playing for five,
she says. Once she’d been
picked for the team,
training was ardous, and
entailed travelling to
Vancouver every weekend
May to July for workouts.
The provincial: government
picked up the tab for ferry
fares and the girls were
provided with billets.
