as a youth when he built cars in
his back yard. The experience
proved helpful when he — put
himself to the task of welding up
a 56 foot tuna fishing ship. He

putting to sea on her second
season of tuna fishing. She is
powered with a 165 GM _ diesel .
which Captain Verhey salvaged
from a former ferry vessel.

The 14 ton capacity fish hold
has its own freezer also installed
and built by Verhey. “‘Not having
to pack ice means I can stay at
sea much longer,'’ he told the
Review. ‘I'm usually out two
weeks or more.’
