Towler Saanich council with a 28-name petition Nov. 17, saying neighbors thought the breakwater had actually im- proved the beach, and asking that it be allowed to stay. The breakwater was ordered removed after council members charged the Thompson Cove beach had been destroyed. Council charged that the breakwater was far bigger than approved plans, that some neighbors’ .access to the water had been cut off, and that the beach and = nearby Mount Newton Crossroad had been torn up for fill. “What. used to be a. nice swimming beach now looks like a huge excavation site,’’ .said Ald.
