Both men were surprised on Friday, and that perhaps, is the moral for those who hold public office. The bark of the average ratepayer is almost always louder than his bite. At first thought we are ready to rend our officers . but most often we love them, especially when such heartening financial statements as those of the Water District are read. The Review joins with all members of the Sidney Water District in thanking Mr. McIntyre and Mr. Oliver for three years of devoted toil. While Mr. McIntyre has removed from the immediate district he will be a frequent visitor, Mr. Oliver will again find the time to indulge in his hobby of boating and fishing at his Roberts Bay home. Two main lines of thought have evolved about. liquor, which to date has held ‘top honors as the most contentious issue faced by the legislators. Some members advocated more and better liquor as a solution to the present ills of over-consumption and delin- quency. Others, admitting the faults of the present system, thought the government should go slowly in effecting changes. They advocated Royal Commis-. sions and legislative studies of the problems before any changes. While review of the present liquor laws was promised in the Throne Speech it still remains a possibil- ity that no major changes will be effected. at the present session because of lack of agreement among legislators. © As far as the medical school goes, it has won almost unanim- ous backing from. the individual members although some have felt the. plan submitted by some ex- perts employed by’ the University of B.C. were for too pretentious. He suggested the Vancouver ‘Normal school building be used since it’ was close to Vancouver General hos- pital. Premier John Hart in his “policy” speech reported the orig- inal offer of the province of $1,500,000 for the building. This was interpreted to mean that the. $6,000,000 project ‘envisioned’ by the University’s experts was out. Unusual was the plea of L. F.
