Philp, who held the office of postmaster continuously until his death two years ago. The first post office was con- ducted in Mr, Philp’s grocery store at the corner of Marine Drive and Anderson Road. With the building of the Great Northern Station, a more central location was neces- sary and the post office was moved to the site of the present Brown Derby. When that place was Burned down, the post office was on the site of Streatffeld’s store and later was moved to the North Block, in the location now Tucker's Drug Store. In the summer of 4987, the present building was erected as there was sufficient busi- ness to warrant a full-time post office. In 1910 Mr* Philp catered to about 200 campers and a handful of permanent residents. Since that time, White Rock has so grown that the inhabitants number around 2000 with an additional 15,000 ca- tered to during the summer months, “In one day,” says Mr. Wood- ward, the present postmaster, “we do as much business as the post office used to do in a whole year.” In addition to Mr. Geo. Wood- ward, who was appointed following the death of Mr. Philp in 1938 and the resignation of Mrs. Philp as postmistress due to ill-health, there 1s & permanent staf of two, as well as Mr. Geo. In May, Miss Pearl Rock wrote to her brother, Tom, also in the Seaforths, and Tom received this letter on June 5, also sealed with the government's “Salved from the Sea” tag and badly faded.
