ISLAND PIONEER PASSES

FULFORD, Nov. 6.—A largely
attended funeral service for the
late John Garter Mollet, who pass-
ed away at his home at Fulford
Harbour on Sunday evening, was
held on Tuesday afternoon at
Saint Mary’s Church, Fulford, Rev.
C. H. Popham officiating.

Many beautiful flora] tributes
covered the casket and hearse and
the large gathering of friends
testified to the esteem of the de-
ceased,

The hymns sung were “Peace,
Perfect Peace’ and “Rock of

Ages” and the following acted as
; | pallbearers: H. Ruckle, William |
Patterson, H. Price, Dave Max-}

well, J. Cairns and Ted Akerman.
The remains were laid to rest in

the family plot in Saint Mary's

Cemetery.

The Jate Mr. Mollet was $4!
years of age and 51 of those years
had been spent on Salt Spring
Island where he was known and re-
spected by all. Born in Jersey.

came to Canada 72 years ago. He
is survived: by one daughter, Mrs,

A link with the early days of
the district was severed with the!
death late Tuesday afternvon of
Alexander Murray MeKenzie, well
known pioneer, who passed away |
at the family residence, East Saa-
nich Road, at the age of 82 years.

Mr. McKenzie was born ‘in Pic-
tou County, Nova Scotia, on July
24, 1858, and received his early |
education in the east. In 1873 he
