- a ‘complacent, » bunch.’’ » Was Wednesday, December I, 1976 ‘INFORMATION WITHELD’ FROM ERIC SHERWOOD SAYS ALDERMAN Sidney alderman Ross Martin accused municipal staff of ‘purposefully = with- holding information’’ from mayoralty = can- didate Eric Sherwood Monday night after discovering a request made by Sherwood in the middle of last week. Sherwood had been re- reading the municipal by- laws and had come across By-Law 332 which states that a candidate must post a $100 bond to place posters in the town and must also receive a letter of permission from the clerk. Sherwood asked if it was a by-law which was adhered to and was told by a member of staff that he would be called back. The mysterious part of the story, according to Ross Martin, was that an uniden- tified member of staff called Sherwood on Friday and said that the bond must be posted but that _ m not supposed to tell you.’ Martin lashed out at members of council calling it a disturbing and disgusting situation, ; “I'd like to know how come staff were directed not to tell Sherwood."* When other members of council declined to comment other than that Martin had better write up = a_ proper complaint, Martin called them arrogant He went on to say that he ‘‘quite prepared’’ to provide the names and submit a formal accusation. In an interview following the meeting, Martin explained that this is the kind of campaign which he loathes and detests, with ‘‘character and the whole bit.”’ He added he is afraid that ° the voters of Sidney are having their eyes blinded | by statements by out-going mayor Peter Malcolm and will not be judging the candidates on terms of their merit and platform. When asked Tuesday to comment on the situation, Eric Sherwood said, ‘‘If it’s their tactics and the staff are told to OBITUARIES FRASER Gordon Hugh Stantey Fraser passed, away, Noventber 23, 1976, at Sidney in his 62nd year, born April 27, 1914, He is survived by his loving wife May Elizabeth, one brother William) and also a sister Dorthea, Gordie served 22 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, was a life Honorary Member of the Chie! No candidate had there’s posted the bond until Sher- wood made the query. Martin also moved a formal vote of censure be made against Mayor Malcolm for ‘recent’ unseemly and un- becoming statements’? about Sherwood and newly elected members of council, Malcolm defended himself saying they ‘‘were made with other statements,’’ but ac- cepted the censure vote. \ CHUCK STEAKS GRADE ‘A’ CROSS RIB ROASTS GRADE ‘A’ TOP ROUND ROAST GRADE ‘A’ RUMP ROAST SLICED SIDE BACON FRESH FROZEN 10 LBS.
