Despite Highways Minister P. A. Gaglardi’s decisive announcement that the Island-Mainland ferry terminus would be located at Tsawwassen there is talk that White Rock is still being quietly considered as the most logical site for the landing. Gaglardi gave a definite “no” when asked recently by Nan- aimo Chamber of Commerce to take another look at the site but White Rock Board of Trade has endorsed Nanaimo's resolu- tion and has forwarded its own resolution to The Assciated Boards of Trade asking for this organization's support Many groups seem to be stirring up discussion again and it is reported that the captains guild in Victoria is concerned over the Tsawwassen route. It would be repetitious to go over the argu- ments of cost and convenience, etc, but as long as there's s hope left, let’s keep after the Minister We don't have to take no for an answer until work actually commences on the Tsawwassen site. Boosting White Rock White Rock received one of its biggest boosts ever last | week by way of wide-spread publicity on its progress as a city and its program planned to encourage tourist trade. Ald) Max Zack and Ted Plante, secretary of the Auto Court and Resort Association, are to be commended for the excellent coverage they arranged for White Rock and its mgny attractions. These men, familiar with what the tourist wants when visiting a resort, put in a great deal of time and effort in making sure this seaside Spa got the type of publicity it deserves That’s good publicity. White Rock residents, especially the business people, should follow the example set by Ald. Zack and Mr. Plante and unite in pressing for a lion's share of tourist trade here. We have a tendency to leave encouragement of visitors to the city to just a few and yet everyone benefits from the tourist dollar Merchants, auto court operators, cafe Proprietors, bankers and residents should all be doing their part to publicize White Rock With the potential this city has in addition to its many attractive tourist features, we shouldn’ have to wait until pres: or radio takes it upon themselves to give White Rock a boost.| Last week fortunately we didn’t have to. wait because two men Were concerned enough to go right to the latter and demand that our city receive some widespread coverage prior to the tourist season. Tht’s the action we like to see and if all of us €ncourage action like this throughout the tourist season we may be sure British Columbia and US. visitors will get to hear of this resort and come to see for themselves this city by the sea. Elsewhere in this paper we see that one of White Rock’s leading realtors expects to hit the two million dollar mark in sales this year This is an indication that businessmen are confident this city will not only get its share of tourists but also its share of permanent residents, It is an optimistic prediction but we agree with the theory that with our beaches, the city's public works program, develop- ment of recreation areas and encouragement of the tourist in- dustry, White Rock has a bright future in store. Service clubs are becoming increasingly tourist conscious and whole-hearted support of this year’s Sea Festival by local organizations is proof they want to see the visitor here this summer.
