to Central Saanich council ex-
pressing concern over  un-
monitored growth of home in-
dustries. These businesses are
‘tunfair competition with those
businesses located in the com-
mercial areas, that pay commer-
cial rents and taxes.”"

Conceding the problem is an
ongoing. one, the association
recommends relevant zoning
bylaws be enforced when new
businesses wish to start on non-
commercial properties.

I gather that all our cormaints have been noted,
when has there been loveliet weather? Now of course, there
will be hundreds of ‘‘beefs’ about the heat, the sunburns,
and where in the world did we put che fan when fast surner’s
heat wave was over?

Those of you who are sull plugging away tying to get in
their bedding plants (fm one of them!) need to know tivo
things. Firstly, buy yourself a box of transplanting eranuies
It is called 10 82-17 and is one of the best things on the
market, and i ts relatively inexpensive, and well worth twice
the price! You mix the powder with barely warmed witer, and
use the resulting mixture to water in your little dauines Phe
number ‘52°° is the secret. to success, siuce phosphates pro
mote both rapid rooting and flowering. Some clever folhe use
a dose of this magic medicine about ae. weeks before a
garden show, dosing the plants they intend to cfs ae the .
show. Presto! Iu three weeks they have prize-witners.

The second thing is to always cover newly transplanted
vegetables or flowers with something like folded newspaper.
like a.sort of tent to protect thent from the full heat of the
sun. Weigh the newspaper edges with rocks, of something
similar, leaving the north side open for good ventilation. |

soil, and the poor things were almost prestiate . 2. Vimesure i
