Luxury homes part of ° ‘unique concept’ |

The houses will be built-on
one-acre lots in about seven clus-
ters of 25 to 30 homesitcs joincd
by trails, said the Edmonton-based
clothing manufacturer, one of four
principals in. the company.

build 1,700 homesites on the 736-
acre island and self them compe-
titively. ,

‘‘We thought this was a great
idea, and when we approached the
Island Trust — I won’t tell you

- what they said to us.”’
_ Part of the plan is to give a

— ; northern spit to the B.C. govern-

ment for the creation of a marine
park. The government has already
said it is interested, Holland said.

So far the Island Trust is also

‘agreeable. ‘‘We've been trying to
encourage the clustering of hous-
ing units and. donation of public
parkland,’’ said chairman Nick
Gilbert. ‘‘This kind of concept is
favorable since it reduces the
potential for future conflict.”

Pacific Parkland will go to the
Trust in six weeks to two months
with a rezoning application.

Gilbert said, ‘“The approach by
the investors has been very satis-
fying. They have addressed all the
essential clements.of any land use
proposal with carly consultation
with all concerned partics.”’

Friends of James Island, a. group
dedicated to preserving the natural
beauty of James Island and to
keeping parts of it open to the
public...

thinks the investors are doing a
good job, so far. ‘These boys

have been involved: with us right
