Cathy Travis, a department of human resources pre-school teacher, told The Review Friday another day care centre is ‘currently being organized in Victoria by. the Little Beaver Society to be operated out of the Native Friendship Centre. Both Indian and non-Indian pre-school children will be attending there. The Saanich Peninsula Tribal Day Care Centre was organized a year ago last September and has an enrollment of about 25 ‘children ‘from the various ‘reserves on the Peninsula, The centre is operated out of a building owned by the Tsawout Band and renovated by the _ department of human resources to bring it up to day care stan- dards. We started right from scratch a year ago,’’ said Travis. She said it was her first job comes “in to help in the af- ternoons. Some children arrive as early. as 8:00 a.m. and some stay on until about 5:30 p.m., said Travis. She said some of the children are from families where both parents work, a couple. of the children’s parents are attending courses at Camosun College and some are from single-parent families. The day care centre is really open to any parents of three to five-year old children who wish to have their children attending, Travis added.
