Riverside Elementary 6 Standard Classrooms and Activity Reom An expandable 6-room elementary school will be constructed in the new heavy “subdivision” area on the site which was provided for in Referendum No. 3. The Townline - Sandell Area Junior High approximately 480 additional Junior High School pupils in the general Townline ~ Sandell Area and will relieve the West Whalley Junior High which is presently overcrowded, school will provide accommodation for ap proximately 240 elementary pupils and will help to relieve both the Hjorth Road and Mary Jane Shannon Elementary School. 3. Townline - Sandell Area Elementary 4 Standard Classrooms and Activity Room The expandable 4room elementary schoo! will relieve Prince Charles, AiLP. Matthew and David Brankin Elementary 4. North Surrey High Addition 1 Standard Classroom - 1 Science Room This school is presently overcrowded and with a projected 490 pupils in Sep- 5. Semiahmoo High Addition 5 Standard Classrooms There will be an estimated 600 high school pupils in this area at September, 1960. Again, these rooms are needed to insure against possible shift classes. Some of the pupils entering this High School in schools with the projected growth in this general area. September, 1960 will have been on shift during most of their elementary schoot years and the Board feels that as serious as “shifting” is at the elementary level it is far more serious during the High School years. 6. Queen Elizabeth High Addition Gymnasium extension Queen Elizabeth High Gymnasium is the same size as the other district High School gyms. The pupil population at Queen Elizabeth is presently more than double that of any of the other High Schools. This situation makes it extremely difficult to properly schedule physical ed- ucation classes. Funds provided are to greatly increase the gymnasium auditoriuny facilities. 7. Newton Junior High Addition (for Senior High School) 3 Standard Classrooms - 1 Science Room 1 Drafting Room - 1 Sewing Room In view of the location of the Newton Jr, High School and the size of the site owned by the Board, taking into considera- tion the size of the site at Princess Mar- 8. As the building programme progresses funds will be provided as required by the sale of de- bentures, These deventures will be retir- ed over a 20 year period. Under the pres ent cost sharing formula as set out in the Public Schools Act, these retirement charges, both principal and interest, are shared by the Government on a 50-50 basis up to the point where the district's share equals a 3 mill levy on current assess: ment yalues. Retirement costs in excess of this are shared 75-25, with the Govern- ment paying the larger percentage, to the point where the additional District cost equals a further 1% mill levy.
