Wednesday, July 18, 1973 SIDNEY PROVINCIAL COURT NEWS ‘By John Manning - Court reporter for The Sidney Review The temperature in Sidney was already in the 70’s when court convened at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. Two crows in a tree near the court could be heard chatter. °- .ing to one another through the open high windows of. the place and four of the lawyers who appeared en that day wore neatly pressed clothes, had their shoes’ shined and their jackets buttoned | . down the front: Two had grey pin striped ‘suits: one wore a waist- coat as well, with every button done up, and during:a discussion of court dates he watched, appar- ently somewhat fascinated. while his colleague took notes on the bare flesh of his hand. John Sullivan wore a royal blue blazer, spotless, brass but-. toned, introducing a quiet tone of summer elegance into the sunlit austerity of the courtroom. The judge, of course, wore his black gown: the one constant feature of - clothing in that courtroom each week; while the spectators came dressed as though plucked in some instant of time from what- ever duty they were at when court | ‘convened. The mounted police officers, when.-in uniform, are in some. sense. no differently attired than the lawyers: shoes shining, ties . ‘pressed, sleeves buttoned,” ‘perhaps a ball point pen poking ; discreetly through a hole in the left hand flap of their shirt pocket. They rarely. enter court wearing a jacket.
