He was the eldest . & twin son of the late Claud & Pearl Butler, pioneer residents of | the. Saanich Peninsula. Born & raised in the Keating area Claude lived all his life in that area & along with his: brothers established the business of Butler Brothers Supplies Ltd. Left to mourn his loss are his devoted wife & companion, Jean, his twin brother Wally, brothers Eric & Tom & sister Dorothy as well as much loved neices, nephews, great nieces & great nephews & many other relatives & a host of friends. One of the most kindly & loving men, Claude's: deep love & respect for his family & friends will leave an empty void in the - lives of all who knew him. He was a- brilliant man, an inventor & builder & holds patents in Canada & the U.S. on several of his inventions... He loved music & during the war years he & several of his friends formed a band known as the Mel O Tones & played for _ many dances. around the Peninsula. in early years he & his brothers built their own speed boats & participated in the races on Elk Lake receiving trophies in many events. He also rode motor- cycles &° participated in .the Mount Douglas Hill Climb for.many years, receiving cups & trophies for his efforts on many ‘occasions. Scout Motorcycle which he hod. restored himself & which is on display in the Motorcycle Museum in Vancouver: Claude was held in high esteem os a private pilot & one of his great flying experiences was his participation. in the 1971 London — Victoria air race, at which time he & his co-pilot, Harold Adasen, led’ the aircraft. from Abb- ‘-ingdon airfield on the return race to Victoria.
