WATER SPORTS | Social Set Will Enjoy Tennis Tour- nament nad Regatta at Kennedy Home, Deep Cove. He relates: that on last Monday he was proceeding along Granville street in a crowd, when he was sud- denly conscious of being forcibly struck from the rear upon that por-! tion of his anatomy where his legs meet his spinal column. Thinking that he had collided with sqmeone he started to say, “I beg your par- don,” but before the words were out of his mouth he had been lifted bod- {ly from the street and fer a mo- ment sat astride of a speeding au- tomobile wheel that had disengaged itself from a car and run amuck. The wheel sped on and Bob did a backward flop to the pavement. A crowd quickly gathered, but he picked himself up unhurt, although a bit shaken. He returned to Sid- ney on Tuesday, and is now writing a musical “sketch around the _ inci- dent, which he intends to reproduce upon the stage. n is well known Two social affairs of several days’ duration which have aroused much interést among the social set of North Saanich are the Tennis Tour- nament and Regatta, which will be given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Kennedy, Deep Cove, the Ten- nis Reurnament beginning this af- ternoon and the regatta’ at 2 p.m. Saturday. The funds derived from both the Tournament and the Regat- ta will go to the Ladies’ Guild of the Holy Trinity Church. The Tennis Tournament opened at 2 o’clock this afternoon on the Ken- nedy court, the mixed doubles being put on first in order that players might become acquainted gt the out- set. It was stated that those unable to play during the afternoon’ will have a chance to do so in the even- ing. The Tournament consists of five events for adults, mixed doubles, ladies’ doubles, ladies’ singles, gen- tlemen’s doubles, gentlemen’s sin- gles, in addition to a set of singles for boys and girls, and it is expected that the affair will continue for four days. The Regatta will be held at the Kennedy beach, and judging from the programme which has been an- nounced it should be a most enjoy- able affair and be prolific in excite- ment for lovers of water sports. The following programme will be carried out: Boys’ single scull, from 13 to 16; girls’ single scull, under 14; ladies’ single scull; boys’ single scul!, from 10 to 13; boys’ single scull, under 10; men’s single scull; ladies’ double canoe race. That the proposed picnic excursion to Sidney of the Foundation Labor Band of Victoria will take place next month seems probable from a letter received from Bandmaster T. Beat- tie by Mr. F. F. Forneri, who, with Mr. P. N. Tester, constitutes a com- mittee of the Board of Trade the function of which is to co-operate with the band in making arrange- ments for the excursion.
