Due to the threatened epidemic of influenza all baby clinics were eancelled and parents were urged to keep thier children away from all public gatherings during the holiday season, This district was fairly free from communicable diseases last fall, There was only one case of chicken pox and two cases of sears Jet fever reported since August, The attendance remained good For Appointment ’Phone E 6614 Joseph Rose OPTOMETRIST At Rose’s Ltd., 1817 Douglas St. ee ee ee ee STAGE DEPOT 'Ph. In the Sidney Elementary School there was 14 cases of ring- worm, two of scabies, and. four Parents are asked to please co-operate by re- porting to Dr. Roberts. or the Pub- lic Health Nurse any abnormal skin condition. In this way alone are we able to control the spread of communicable diseases. The annual examinations by the school health officer, Dr. Roberts, have been completed. -There were 195 pupils examined at the end of the fall term. The must com- mon defect found during inspec- tion was decayed teeth. Parents are asked to attend to this as’soon as possible. Deenyed teeth causes fur more il health than most peo- ple suspect. They may lead to chronic, serious and even fatal ilnesses. Preservation of sound teeth, if proper steps are taken in time, does not entail very much in the way of expenditure of time or money. Since the holidays an immuniza- tion program has been started in the schools. The response to the immunization program has been very gratifying to date and it is hoped this will continue. We are determined to put our community to the top of the list of communi- ties in the province in regard to percentage of immunized children. Especially must we have the help of mothers of young children who have not ‘yet been immunized against whooping cough, diptheria, scarlet fever, and small pox. Re- inforcing doses of diphtheria ton- aid and small pox ‘vaccine should be given children who were im- munized several years ago. Let us not forget that “a nation goes forward on the feet of its little children”. and that the foundation ‘of.a healthy, happy Canada tomor- row must be laid today. | Child ‘Health Conferences have Conferences ; In .the past year ‘there ‘has been: 1,713. visits..made to: the various: ‘conferences, : 1,239 baby: visits, 474 -pre-school Visits.
