Named after William Burroughs' novel, Nova Express, the Nova Library attempts to share the creative process with the community and represent the spirit, ideas, and creativity of current and former drug users in the Downtown Eastside. Working with a number of organizations to collect title suggestions from the community, artist Hans Winkler has created a 'social sculpture' in the Vancouver Public Library's Central branch. Featuring a display of over 500 diverse titles representing a range of writers and themes, the Nova Library sits at the intersection of community engaged arts, literary installation, and public performance.
