Evergreen News (中僑新天地 Can: zung1 kiu4 san1 tin1 dei6 / Man: zhōng qiáo xīn tiān dì,formerly 松鶴天地 Can: cung4 hok2 tin1 dei6 / Man: sōng hè tiān dì)is S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s free Chinese-language monthly newsletter. Founded in October 1985 in Vancouver by a group of senior volunteers, the publication was created to provide Chinese-language information for senior Chinese immigrants, bridging social isolation and information gaps caused by language barriers, cultural differences, and generational divides. It also encouraged seniors to actively participate in community life and enjoy a fulfilling life.
Spanning over forty years, Evergreen News not only reflects the community needs and lifestyles of senior Chinese immigrants but also showcases their often-overlooked qualities: cultural pride and continuity, flexibility and wisdom in adapting to a new life, and a strong spirit of volunteerism — offering a window into the immense energy of this community.
In its early years, the magazine received support from the federal New Horizons Program, and later, the Friends of Evergreen News was established to maintain the publication through fundraising and community support. This digitization project covers the first ten years of Evergreen News, from October 1985 to December 1994, encompassing a total of 111 print issues.
